Goings On

Thought I'd just give a few updates on the events of our world. We are enjoying a Monday off of school because of "Labor Day" and because the teachers had to work this weekend at the CATIE International Fair. The best part is we get to benefit from both. The International Fair is an annual gathering on the CATIE campus for the whole community to celebrate all the different counties that partner together in CATIE's mission to develop sustainable agriculture in the tropics. So on Saturday and Sunday we enjoyed music, food and crafts from Mexico, Nicaragua, Belize, Peru, Ecuador, Costa Rica, Brazil, Columbia, Guatemala, Argentina and Europe. The kids got to explore the climbing wall and made a rain stick out of bamboo.

In other news Maggie is recovering nicely from her fall on Saturday. We decided that she is as cute as Shirley Temple and as tough as A.J. Hawk.

The weather here had been like August in the mid-west. Hot and dry. But just like August in Minnesota we discovered that the tomatoes are in! You know those beautiful vine ripe tomatoes loaded with flavor? Yes indeed, yet another bounty from the good earth here.

Just like in our old neighborhood we are enjoying is a cast of characters here in our new house too. Maggie likes looking for the "hop frog" that lives near our front door and I am quite fond of the three-legged dog that greets me on my way home from the bus.

More soon.
